Happy 10th Birthday, StickyRed!

Ten years.

Ten years of all things hacking and stabbing. Ten years of filling up this compendium of bodycounts from slasher movies and its kin. I never really thought I could make it this far!

It kinda feels like it was just yesterday when I finally decided to start writing about my favorite horror sub-genre after visiting sites like Hysteria-Lives, Slasherpool and Retroslashers. (Dang, who remembers the last two?) I wanted an outlet and this site gave me that opportunity to do just that so, thank you.

Thank you for those who dropped by to see what this little man has offer in insight regarding your favorite and/or new slasher titles out there. (I sure do hope I didn't spoil any movies considering the bodycounting I do here! haha) Thank you for tolerating my grammar, which I swear I check and re-check, over and over. Thank you for commenting and sharing a few suggestions for me to watch and read. (You know who you are, you good people!)

Thank you, to all the little friends I made here. Knowing you take a time off your day to see what I write about simply puts a smile on my face. (What can I say? I'm a man of simple pleasures!)

So ten years has passed since I started this blog. Here's to another ten years and more! So long as evil walks on two legs and there are final girls and boys to stop them, I will power on to see what this fine subgenre has to offer! So here's to StickyRed: Bodycount Compendium! So now, dear readers...

New Blogger Blog is a Webcomic...

So yeah, I decided to expand my next project here in Blogger for more exposure. It'll be a gag webcomic series about a demoness named Cass and her often unusual adventures living in the mortal world.

Well, try living in the mortal world...

Hope you guys will give this one a try!

Happy 5th Birthday, StickyRed! (plus bonus comics!)

July 17 2011. Sunday.

How can I forget that day?

It was a sunny and lazy afternoon. I finished watching Night of The Demon (1980), visited sites like the now defunct slasherpool.com and Retroslashers, as well as the ever popular Hysteria Lives, and I wondered what'll be like to start writing reviews of my own.

Next thing you know, I was looking for a blogger site, found one conveniently via my google account, and I was writing a review for one of my so-called "Golden Titles", Friday the 13th (1980).

Five years and 859 reviews (so far) later, I'm still writing reviews for slasher movies, although my writing style, number of posts and scheduling have drastically changed over the time. (and I cringe whenever I re-read and fix them) I blame it on my work, my other hobbies, and the fact that I have aged along the films I cover, somewhat learning and understanding enough of the tricks and trades that happen before, during and after a bodycount film, though I am not upset. I am ecstatic, actually.

Ecstatic that I am able to go this far and can learn to juggle my time for other things, both important and for light-hearted fun. Ecstatic that I am able to find others who shares my passion for good genre flicks. And above all, I am ecstatic that I am one, if not the only one Filipino horrorphile to put this much dedication, knowledge and respect for a subgenre no other Filipinos would understand or appreciate. (The pain of living in a Catholic-raised rock)

So, for the fifth birthday of this blog, I say thank you for dropping by and giving this personal dark blot in the internet a chance as I again ready myself for another round of blood, guts and dumb teenagers being dumb. Of masked maniacs, supernatural wise-crackers, and wannabe bad-guys who just aren't good enough! Thank you again and have a good one!

Bonus Content!!!
I have been mentioning that I share my spare time writing and drawing comics. Welp, that wasn't a lie! So in celebration of this blog's 5th birthday, here are some selected (horror-related) comics from my slice-of-life gag webcomic, "Life in New Kirk", which I've been posting on my deviantart page since 2014.

What's it about? Well...

Welcome to New Kirk, Ohio. A typical American city in a not so typical reality, where Anthropomorphic mammals called Furs co-exists side-by-side with humans. Follow the lives of Louie, a Filipino immigrant, his fox Fur roommate October, and the rest of their friends and family as they go through the normal and the not-so-normal, one gag strip at a time!

It's not weird, it's just Life in New Kirk!

If you wanna see more, Feel free to visit my deviantart page at anadminnamedpaul.deviantart.com, or follow this link for more Life In New Kirk goodies!

Smell you guys, later!

Two Years of Bodycounting: Happy 2nd Birthday Stickyred!!!

Dang. When was the last time I drew this mascot?!
Can you believe this Blog's been running on for two years now? Though, I have to admit this year's productivity is slower than before due to me working, but I managed, and this site's still up, giving you the freshest reviews to popular, not-so-popular, obscure and relatively rare slashers and bodycounting thrillers!

But for this year's birthday post, lemme do some Shout-Outs to my brothers and sisters who took the time to drop by every now and then;

First, to my bros, Craig and Maynard! From Let's Get Out of Here and  Maynard's Horror Movie Diary respectively, my two bros over the web who are never a complete bore with their wide, wide scopes of reviews, feedbacks, insights and beards! But mostly their beards!

Second, goes to the lovely lady of the night, Michele from The Girl Who Loves Horror, the adorable lass in glasses who makes honest and insightful reviews and comebacks, and has the special ability to look cute in glasses!

Then we got fellow Slasher bloggers Hudson and Joaquin Gonzales from Vegan Voorhees and A Slash Above respectively! Hud here's the more interactive one, and probably a better reviewer cuz he's pretty much straight to the point, (I prefer dramatics~! Monami~!), though Mr. Gonzales still entertains back; plus the guy's kind enough to offer me a DVR of Study Hell. (Though the exchange didn't happen. I have nothing rare-ish to exchange...U3U pfft)

Lastly, we got our new friend Lord Crayak, who I believe to be the admin behind a wikia known as Horror Film Bodycount Wiki, which is a good way for me to make sure my own bodycounting is accurate. He sortah frequents my blog and gives a lot of great info on most of the movies I review! I'm deeply appreciative of that as you can tell!

And of course, YOU! YES! YOU! THE ONE WHO'S PROBABLY READING THIS RIGHT NOW! Thanks for dropping by to this little labor of blood, sweat, tears and other bodily fluids that I'm willing to give up for some love and attention! Your views is the reason I'm still doing this, and the fact that I just love hearing myself talk! lol

So, yes, this is here to another year of Bodycounting! Slashers! Serial Killers! And everything else in between!

By the way; isn't it weird she used to look like that? My skills are finally maturing! 8D

ONE LIT CANDLE! ONE ENTIRE YEAR OF BODYCOUNTS!

I can't believe it...

an entire year had passed and here it is, my labor of love and pass time, standing firmly on it's ground!...Or at least tries to!

SO that's a Happy Birthday to my one and only slasher blog Sticky Red!

I'm not really sure what to say now; in fact, I wasn't really expecting this site to last this long!

I guess I should do something to give you good blokes and shielas something to read in celebration for this blog's successful year of grueling deaths and masked psychos! Perhaps, an origin story?

Well let see...

Long ago in a distant Asian land known as the Philippines, I, Paul of a thousand names, is and still a slasher fan! Born to had seen the horrors of Michael Myers and Jason Voorhees by the cursed screen of a tellie, told of countless nightmares committed by the Springwood Slasher known as Freddy by his father and succumbs to watch the homicidal rage of the killer doll Chucky by his mother, the boy grew up a horror junkie.

Years had passed, and his interest in horror nearly died in his teen years, thinning down to no more than Hellraiser movies, Kaiju Eiga films, Phantasm series, parody comedies (mainly Police Academies, Naked Guns, and AIRPLANE!) countless zombie movies (mainly Romero), and instead focusing on his artistic drawing skills and Japanese animation.
Before welcoming slashers back into my life,
these guys filled the hole...
He later rekindled his interest in horror in one faithful rainy afternoon, in a used bookstore where he found one magazine to bring back his love for horror: Horrorhound issue #12.
God smiled again to me.
And it was good.
It was that book where he found out that most of the movies he had loved so much as a boy falls in one category, and one alone, the infamous slashers. With his blood boiling in excited rush, it all made sense that the kind of movies he loved the most was a simple routine horror that knows how to have fun, giving him the enthusiasm to sought for these movies and see if he can enjoy them. If the spark will come back.

It did. And it was good.

Years had passed and Paul had collected over 400+ titles, all of it written as a list in a piece of folded copy paper. and yet, he felt empty and shallow; he can draw, he can write and his skills for criticism was put to the test when he became a college student studying Journalism, but his talents lay unnoticed and overlooked. So he sought refuge to the web, and found sites reviewing titles under this genre; generally, strongholds such as Hysteria Lives!, Vegan Voorhees and Retroslashers. Admiration, as well as the need to find and socialize with people who knows a thing or two about real movies, Paul had an idea, an experiment. And there came StickyRed, the bodycount compendium...

The rest was history.

So now you know how I came up with this blog. Yes, it's a boring ole' story, but I'm glad I'm running my own dark side of the internet never the less. It's nothing rewarding for most people, but I'm not most people. I'm my own freak and I love myself! And since this blog is a part of myself as well, then I love it to bits.

And of course a big love to YOU!
YES! YOU! MY DEAR READERS, WHO EVEN WENT THIS FAR TO FINISH THIS POST!

Congratulate yourself for making this round boy happy at least for this day! Please drop by anytime and see what I get to say on your most loved, and hated, slasher titles and more!

Until then, Keep Bodycounting!
